Contracting Work
Background:
Less than one month after I exited from Kevco, following completion of my bankruptcy liquidation duties, the 9/11/2001 attack on the world trade centers occurred. The economy was moving slowly into recession but I received a couple of very good offers that I declined due to the location and some newly developed family constraints (my older son was diagnosed with a brain tumor). In 2002 the job market tightened significantly.
I had discussions with a recruitment firm about a Program Management role related to the federalization of the airport passenger screeners (that was occurring in response to 9/11) that I was not interested in due to lower pay and extended travel with infrequent home return trips. However, when the Dallas Love Field project began the recruitment firm invited me to be a team member on the project. I began work on the project as a team member, the second day I was promoted to night manager, and the fourth day the existing project manager was removed and I was promoted to Project Manager over the entire project. I remained managing the Dallas Love Field project until the full program reached completion.
