Company Profile: L-3 Communications is a prime aerospace and defense contractor in Command, Control and Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, Government Services, Aircraft Modernization and Maintenance with $15B in annual revenues (at the time of employment).  I worked at the Integrated Systems Division in Greenville, TX which primarily performed full scale aircraft modifications focused on intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance in an Engineer to Order environment.  L-3 in Greenville operated a broad range of manufacturing capabilities including: PC board fabrication, PC board assembly, electro-mechanical assembly, metal fabrication, machining, mechanical assembly, cable harness assembly, fiberglass forming, among other as well as aircraft exterior and interior modifications installations.

  • Implemented Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP)

    • Implemented SAP LTP (Long Term Planning) and DM (Demand Management) capabilities

    • Implemented a robust capacity planning and reporting (displaying not only available capacity in comparison to load by relevant level (area, department, work center, machine) but also load with projected workability issues (company maintained 20+ categories of potential issues), utilization, realization, queue / wait / move times, constraint type: man or machine, SAP schedule margin key aspects

    • Implemented frequent discussions with top project areas and automated follow up methods for minor projects

    • Implemented disaggregation methodologies to translate from project scope to manufacturing requirements in each relevant manufacturing level (area, department, work center, machine)

  • Improved scheduling processes, and schedule accuracy by 41%

    • Schedule based on S&OP agreed upon and feasible schedule                                  

    • Implemented schedule and production planner capacity management capabilities and responsibilities

    • Implemented on going reviews of all production order workability issues prior to release

    • Exceeded manufacturing goals for on-time order completion and cycle time

  • Improved electro-mechanical manufacturing lead times by up to 60% through system changes in queue/wait/move times, SAP schedule margin key factors, order selection methodologies, and WIP reductions.
